One of our favorite foliage spots in Kyoto is Okochi-Sanso Villa. It sits at the top of the famous Bamboo Arashiyama Grove, but it see relatively few tourists.

Most people walk right by this superb little garden when they visit Nanzen-ji Temple, but we strongly recommend paying to enter, especially during fall foliage season.

Starting in mid-October, Kyoto’s maple trees burst into vibrant hues of orange and red. One of the best (and most popular) places to see them is Eikan-do Temple in northern Higashiyama.
