Downtown Kyoto is not the most photogenic city, but in the early evening, when the lights come on, it can look quite attractive. You can get this view from the roof of Kyoto Station.
Every week a new Kyoto Photo is published here on Inside Kyoto. These beautiful, evocative photos are taken by either Jeffrey Friedl or Damien Douxchamps. You can follow the links to their respective sites to see more images by clicking on their image credit under each photo.

Daimonji is our favorite mountain in Kyoto. The climb to the “Dai” character on the mountainside is the best hike near the city. On August 16th, during the Gozan-Okuribi Festival, the character will be set ablaze just after sunset. For details on the festival, see Kyoto Festivals. For details on the hike, see our Mt Daimonji-yama Hike from Ginkaku-ji Temple page.
