Mention hostels and some people might immediately think of loud spaces, dirty shared facilities, and dingy surroundings. But whoever said inexpensive hostels automatically meant low-quality? Kyoto Morris Hostel belongs to a new wave of hip, modern, stylish Japanese hostels providing quality stays to travellers who look for comfort on a budget.

Located a short 7-minute walk from Jingu-Marutamachi Station, Kyoto Morris Hostel is a well-appointed hostel, with friendly, polite staff, and clean, comfortable bunk beds. Each bunk bed comes with a reading light, privacy curtain, and electric outlet. A hotel room it is not, but it’s surprisingly comfortable.
The shared showers have high water pressure – important for those who care about their daily baths – and they’re usually clean and nice to use.

As expected of good hostels, there are a number of things here that make it easier to mingle with other guests. There’s a fun lounge area and an on-site bar to help lubricate conversations with fellow travellers. Bicycles are available to rent, and we recommend asking the front desk for one – cycling is one of the best ways to explore Kyoto.

The breakfast buffet isn’t included in your bunk bed price, but it’s available for an additional six dollars or so. It’s tasty enough for the price, and there’s a decent variety of food. If you’re staying multiple nights, we’d suggest having breakfast here for one day and checking out nearby cafes or bakeries for the rest of your time.
It’s not the most centrally located hostel around. But, it’s very near the Imperial Palace grounds, and it’s a short walk from the upper end of Teramachi Street with all its cool antique and craft shops.
