A short walk from Kyoto Station, AEON Mall is the largest shopping mall in central Kyoto. It houses most of the major Japanese shopping brands and has a great food court and restaurant area.

If you’re looking to do some serious shopping or want to grab a meal near Kyoto Station, head over to AEON Mall (pronounced “Eon”). You’ll find major Japanese brands here like Uniclo, Muji, Montbell (outdoor gear), ABC (shoes) and Daiso (100 yen shop) and a good selection of foreign brands like Zara and The Gap. There’s also a supermarket on the ground floor, which is great if you’re staying in hotel nearby.

On the 4th floor, there’s a spacious food court with many Japanese and foreign chains represented. Also on the 4th floor, there’s a good restaurant area where you can sample several Japanese cuisines, as well as Chinese and Italian options. In addition, you’ll find a variety of cafes and tea houses scattered across the various floors. These dining options can be slightly less crowded than those in Kyoto Station, so if the station is packed out, consider coming here to eat.

Finally, there’s a cinema and game complex on the 5th floor. So, if you’re looking to keep the kids entertained on a rainy day, AEON Mall is a good option. It’s an easy 5-minute walk from the south (Hachijo) exit of Kyoto Station (walk west).
