Located just steps from Nishiki Market, Asano Sake Shop is a casual spot to sample a variety of fine Japanese sakes. With reasonably priced sets and a nice standing bar, Asano makes it easy to learn about the varieties of good Japanese sake.

With over 100 varieties of junmai (pure rice) sakes on offer, you have a good chance of finding something you like. The sake sets include three types of sake and range in price from ¥300 to ¥800 depending on the grade of sake you choose. Don’t worry if you don’t like sake: they also serve Japanese craft beer and liqueurs. And, of course, you have the option of purchasing a bottle of anything you like.
They also serve a nice selection of nibbles to go with the drinks. The staff can usually handle simple questions in English. Failing that, you can always communicate via Google Translate on your phone etc.
