A short walk from the south side of Kyoto Station, Chojiro Kyoto Avanti is a great place for great sushi at a very reasonable price. Your kids will love it.

Chojiro is officially a kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi place but we’ve never seen them use the conveyor belt. Rather, you sit at the counter or tables and order your sushi via an iPad that you can easily switch to English, then the sushi chefs make your order.

The sushi and other dishes like tempura at Chojiro are very good – far better than what you’ll get at most kaiten sushi places. You’ll find all the usual favorites and there are plenty of things that kids will like.

Expect to pay around ¥2500 per person for a good lunch or dinner. If you eat a lot of expensive things like toro or uni, expect to pay a bit more. But, no matter what you order, it’s going to cost much less than the famous sushi restaurants in town.
It’s on the basement floor of the Kyoto Avanti Building, which is just across the street from the south side (shinkansen or Hachi-jo side) of Kyoto Station. You can get there via an underground passage from the station. If you arrive on street level, take the escalator and you’ll see it very near the glass doors.
