For a competitively-priced, stylish, modern hotel with clean and comfortable rooms, Cross Hotel Kyoto is just the ticket. It’s great for visitors who want to be near all the action downtown. Plus, we love the bar and lounge.

Located 5-8 minutes on foot from Sanjo Station, Cross Hotel Kyoto is about as central as you can get! Those who like shopping will find the proximity to Teramachi and Sanjo shopping arcades very helpful. It’s about 10-15 minutes on foot to the Gion district, too.
Rooms at Cross Hotel Kyoto are clean, bright, and stylish. More importantly, the room layout is pretty smart, and rooms are on the spacious side by Japanese standards for the price point, meaning you can actually have more than two suitcases open at the same time. It’s not a palace, but it’s good for Japan. Like Japanese living spaces, the toilet and shower space are separate.

Beds here are firm but comfortable. Pillows are on the thicker side, which may be an issue for some people. It’s just something to keep in mind. We also like that rooms here have USB charging ports. These should be standard for all modern hotel rooms! WiFi is fast and reliable – great for getting a spot of work done.
While there is a safe, it’s on the smaller side and not particularly useful if you want to keep your laptop or even an iPad inside. It’s usually not an issue to lock your stuff in your suitcase though.

The staff here are helpful and attentive, and happy to advise you on local attractions or how to get places. Don’t expect them to assist with luggage though. While you’re in the lobby, don’t forget to grab free coffee. The beans in the machine are pretty good.
Lastly, breakfast at the hotel is very decent, but we strongly recommend skipping dinner at the hotel restaurant (Kiharu Brasserie). The surrounding area has hundreds of better restaurants around. Check out our suggestions on where to eat for more!
