Dusit Thani Kyoto - Inside Kyoto

The Dusit Thani Kyoto is the first branch of this famous Thai hotel chain to open in Kyoto. Like its sister hotels back in Thailand, this Dusit Thai is an elegant, stylish and welcoming hotel. It’s clearly a luxury hotel but cheaper than most international brands in this budget class.

I have fond memories of the Dusit Thani flagship hotel in Bangkok. I lived around the corner from the hotel and occasionally met friends for coffee in the lounge there. It had a very elegant and relaxed feeling and I’m happy to say that the new Dusit Thani in Kyoto has the same feeling. Rather than trying to bring Thai décor to Japan, they’ve instead decided to highlight local Japanese style and they’ve done a great job of it.

The rooms, common areas, restaurant and spa here are all beautiful. Service can be an issue at new hotels in Japan, but it’s not a problem here: staff are attentive and efficient. And while the location is not ideal, Kyoto Station, several temples and a subway station (Gojo Station) are all within easy distance, and a taxi will get you most other places in Kyoto very quickly.
