If budget is your main consideration, you’ll love this capsule hotel. With rates as low as US$20 per night, it’s an astonishing bargain. The facilities are pretty nice and the location isn’t too bad.
First Cabin “business class” capsules
First Cabin Kyoto Nijo At A Glance
- Great for: Solo travelers, families on a budget
- Strong points: Amazingly low rates, laundry facilities, large common bath
- Sample rates: US$20 to 100
First Cabin exterior
First Cabin is a Japanese hotel brand that styles itself as an upscale capsule hotel. It offers standard capsules, “business class” capsules, and good family suites that are actually not capsules but private rooms.
Family suite
The First Cabin Kyoto Nijo is over on Horikawa-Nijo, a short walk north of Nijo Castle. It’s not the most convenient location, but it’s a relatively short walk to Nijo Station on the Tozai Subway Line. You can also walk to the Kyoto Gosho (Imperial Palace Park) in about 20 minutes.
Large bath
The facilities here are very nice and they’ve got everything a budget traveler needs: washers and dryers, vending machines, a nice gender-segregated bathing area (and, of course, private showers). The staff is also quite helpful. So, if you’re trying to make your yen go a long way, this is a good choice.
