This newest addition to the Kyoto scene (opened in April 2022) is a real find as it offers a high level of luxury at reasonable prices.

Genji Kyoto Hotel
Though a modern new-built with Western beds, it has impressive design details that give a very Japanese ambience. There are innovative washi paper windows in the lobby, eco bonsai plants in glass orbs, tatami area and a Tale of Genji-inspired painting in every room, and Japanese gardens throughout the hotel. The garden in the lobby courtyard is a contemporary masterpiece and the one on the roof is a stunning oasis with panoramic views of Kamo River and the Higashiyama Mountains.

Genji Kyoto Hotel
There is only one bar and restaurant in the lobby but the decor and atmosphere are superior and the food is delicious – try their donburi rice bowls! Meals can be served on the roof garden. With only 19 rooms, this hotel is small enough to deliver on their promise of personalized service. We found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms are spacious with river, garden or city views and 9 have balconies overlooking the river. The hotel is within 20 minutes walk from Kyoto Station, Downtown, Pontocho, Gion, Kiyomizu area, and the Kyoto National Museum. Lots of retro cafes and shops in the neighborhood.
