Don’t let the odd name of this apartment hotel deter you from giving it a chance. Glanz kei Gion Shinmonzen has well-appointed, spacious rooms, and is centrally located between Sanjo and Gion-Shijo Station. It’s a great home away from home.

Location is everything when it comes to sightseeing, and if that’s one of your primary considerations when looking for a place to stay, apartment hotel Glanz kei Gion Shinmonzen should be at the top of your list. It’s right between Sanjo and Gion-Shijo – super convenient for exploring downtown Kyoto. But despite its central location, the surroundings are quiet enough that it won’t feel like you’re in downtown Kyoto. So don’t let its slightly odd name deter you from checking it out!
As befits an apartment hotel, rooms at Glanz kei Gion Shinmonzen are relatively more spacious by Japanese standards – certainly more so than your average hotel in Kyoto in this price range.

Each room is ensuite, but also comes with a fridge, microwave, induction hob, and washing machine, making it pretty good for longer stays. You can hang any washing in the bathroom too, since it’s equipped with a ventilator. The WiFi is fast and the room comes with a TV, toiletries, and an electric kettle, among other things. As a bonus, all rooms here are non-smoking, too.
You can’t have breakfast at Glanz kei Gion Shinmonzen – it’s just not what this place offers – but the staff will be happy to recommend somewhere nearby for your morning meal. Having the kitchenette in the room, though, makes it easy to heat up or prepare something for yourself anyway!

Something else to consider before booking that staff aren’t here 24/7; only during business hours. As such, Glanz kei isn’t ideal if you like relying on hotel staff for things like booking restaurants or room service, e.g. if you want extra towels brought to your room in the evening. There are plenty of tourist pamphlets at the front desk if you need more information on where to go. Plus, when they are around, the hotel staff are kind and helpful.
Still, don’t let that deter you. With its reasonable prices and great location, Glanz kei Gion Shinmonzen is a good choice for more independent travellers who just want a comfortable and central stay in Kyoto.
