Located in the northern Higashiyama district, a fair distance from downtown, the Okazaki Bettei is a particular choice for those in search of quiet and pleasant neighborhood walking.

Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei At A Glance
- Great for: Individuals and couples in search of quiet, those who want to explore northern Higashiyama. Note: Children below 12 years of age are NOT accepted
- Strong points: Quiet, walking trails in area, large rooms

A branch of the excellent Kyoto Hotel Okura (“bettei” means something like “separate manor”), the Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei is located in the northern Higashiyama sightseeing district. It’s about 10 minutes by taxi to downtown, or about 30 minutes on foot. The isolation is surely the selling point for many guests. The hotel sits at the southern end of Yoshida-yama Hill, which is my favorite area in the city for walking. It’s covered with shrines and temples and it can be utterly magical at the right time of day.
Okura Okazaki Bettei exterior
The rooms are large by Japanese standards and the entire hotel feels quite elegant. Service is formal and the entire hotel has a rather formal feeling.
Okazaki Bettei lobby
There’s a pleasant restaurant with a lovely view over a Japanese-style garden.
Okazaki Bettei restaurant
If you are aware of the location and seek a quiet and elegant hotel, this Okazaki Bettei is a good choice. Just keep in mind that children below 12 years of age are not accepted.
