Hotel Resol Kyoto Kawaramachi Sanjo is a comfortable and stylish hotel in the mid-range category. It’s suitable for both business travellers and tourists. Location-wise, it’s fantastic if you want to be right where all the shopping is. It’s an 8-minute walk to Nishiki Market, for instance. It’s also well-connected, with many bus stops around for onward travel to other destinations.
Rooms here are completely non-smoking, which is relatively uncommon for Japanese hotels. They’re also just slightly larger than expected for Japanese hotels, though don’t expect them to be palatial. Even though it’s right in the middle of the city, it’s quiet and you’ll get a good night’s sleep.

All the amenities that you might expect of a decent hotel, from toiletries to sleepwear and slippers, are provided. Oddly enough, you can also borrow nail clippers from reception. If you’re the sort of traveller who likes using the drawers in your hotel room for clothes, though, we should
As a reasonably new hotel, the fittings and furnishings are still well-kept. A special mention must go to the tasteful decor. We especially like the blend of Japanese-Western elements in the room, such as the tatami mat flooring paired with beds. It’s great if you want a traditional feel to your room, but can’t really handle sleeping on the floor!
One minor gripe is that breakfast – while perfectly decent – is exactly the same, day in and day out. It’s a mix of Japanese and Western dishes. If the lack of variety bothers you, skip the breakfast and check out some of the cafes and bakeries nearby. We do like the juice machine, though.
