If you’re hungry for a quick bowl of ramen while in Kyoto Station, head to the Porta underground shopping mall beneath the station and grab a seat at Ippudo, a tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen shop that got its start in Kyushu.

You can choose from several styles of ramen and the English menu makes ordering easy. We strongly recommend ordering some of their famous crispy gyoza to go with your meal. A set with both ramen and gyoza costs ¥1410 or ¥1480, depending on which style of ramen you choose.
The only problem here is the crowds. Unless you go just after they open or right before they close, you’ll almost certainly find a line of people waiting to get in. And, once you’re in, you might find the place rather cramped. It’s certainly not the place for a relaxed meal or a quiet conversation. But, if you just crave some tasty ramen and great gyoza, and the line isn’t too long, you’ll probably be very happy with this iteration of the Ippudo chain.
Note, if you’re put off by the crowds and cramped conditions of this branch of Ippudo, consider heading up to the 10th floor of the Kyoto Station building where you’ll find Kyoto Ramen Koji, which is home to eight different ramen restaurants.
