Overlooking the Kamo-gawa River, with a beautiful yuka (dining terrace), Kacto offers Western food with a few Japanese touches. It’s a great place for a casual brunch, lunch or dinner with a view.

Kacto serves a variety of great eggs, burgers, salads and pancakes, among other comfort foods. The truffled eggs and thick pancakes are particularly tasty. Service is friendly and generally efficient and most of the servers speak some English.

It costs a little extra to sit outside on the terrace, but it’s worth it on warm days and evenings, when the people watching is excellent.
Be warned that Kacto is popular and strategically located to attract a crowd, so go early or expect to wait on line during busy seasons.
