Located right beneath Kyoto Station, Kanazawa Maimon Sushi is a great spot for a casual sushi lunch or dinner. It’s way better than your typical kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi places and it’s an excellent place to go with kids.

Kanazawa, a port town on the Japan Sea, is famous for its excellent seafood, and this place serves sushi worthy of the name. It’s officially a kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi place, but you can order everything on the menu from iPads at your table or counter seat. Items come very fast and they’re almost all very tasty. The neta (fish pieces) are generous in size and the freshness is excellent.
As you might guess, this place is often very crowded. But the numbered waiting system is efficient and you can do some shopping in nearby stores while you wait.
This is a great place for kids who tend to enjoy both the conveyor belt options and ordering with the iPad. There’s enough variety to please most picky eaters and there’s plenty to please adult eaters. A family can fill up here for around ¥8,000, which is far less than sushi will cost back home.
It’s located in the Porta underground mall beneath Tokyo Station.
