Kikyo Sushi is a great family-owned restaurant in Central Kyoto. It’s perfect for a simple sushi meal in a cozy environment away from the crowds of downtown.

Make no mistake: Kikyo is not like one of the Michelin-starred sushi restaurants you’ll find in Tokyo. Rather, it’s a good midrange sushi place when you can get a good omakase sushi set for around ¥2500. In addition to sushi, they serve great sashimi, tempura and grilled fish.
There’s an English menu and servers all seem to speak some English. This makes it comfortable for tourists to enter, but it’s still popular with locals. So, while it may not satisfy sushi snobs with deep pockets, it will certainly please most travelers, including those with kids in tow.
Look for the traditional façade and the noren curtain hanging in the doorway.
