Kyo Unawa is an excellent place to sample that sublime Japanese dish: unagi (grilled eel). The eel here is perfectly grilled and beautifully presented in tasteful but approachable Japanese surroundings.

Just steps from Nishiki Market in the heart of downtown, Unawa is one of our go-to restaurants for unagi. We like this place because it somehow manages to be easy to enter, and yet feel worlds away from the crowds that plague the nearby market.

Meals here will cost between ¥5,000 and ¥11,000 per person so it’s not cheap, but it’s worth it considering the quality of the food and the pleasant setting. So if you like unagi, don’t miss Kyo Unawa!
