If you’re planning on staying around Kyoto Station, Miyako City Kintetsu Kyoto Station is a fantastically convenient choice. It’s directly connected to Kintetsu Kyoto Station. While you’re just a little removed from the Higashiyama area when staying around this station, the myriad bus and train connections mean that getting anywhere is pretty easy. Price-wise, it’s pretty good value for hotels in Kyoto – not the cheapest, but you are paying for location.
The hotel was recently renovated, and while the rooms are fairly basic in terms of decor, facilities are new and comfortable. They provide everything you need, from free WiFi to a TV, air purifier, electric kettle, and fridge. In general, the beds are comfortable and everything is clean and well-kept.

If you’re willing to pay a little extra, the corner twin room here is fairly spacious at approximately 32 square metres. Otherwise, standard twin rooms here are rather typical in terms of size for a Japanese hotel. It’s great to have a room with a view of the train tracks – being able to watch all the trains come and go is a lot of fun.
The hotel breakfast has both Japanese and Western food at the buffet. While it’s decent, it’s on the slightly expensive side and nothing to really write home about. Plus, it’s not great if you’re staying multiple nights, as the selections are the same every morning. Those who are more discerning about their morning meals may wish to skip the hotel breakfast and check out some of the station cafes, or venture out to other bakeries in Kyoto.

If you want to be very near all the action and attractions downtown, Miyako City Kintetsu Kyoto Station isn’t necessarily the best choice. The immediate area around the hotel and this station isn’t particularly interesting. But, it is a great base for exploring areas outside of Kyoto, or if you just need an overnight stay near this station before departing the next day.
It is also a good choice if you’re travelling with a JR Pass. Day trips to Uji, Nara, Arashiyama, Himeji, Osaka, or Hiroshima are made extremely easy by hopping on the bullet train or one of the multiple train connections downstairs.
Also, while it’s convenient when you’re hopping on and off trains for day trips, Miyako City Kintetsu Kyoto Station is as its namesake suggests inside a station. As such, the front entrance is closed between 11:45pm and 5:00am, and you’ll need to use the night time entrance on the southern Hachijoguchi Exit side if you’re returning after midnight. It’s not an actual curfew, but it is something to remember for those late nights out.
