Mumokuteki Café is one of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Kyoto. The food is great and it’s right in the middle of downtown.

Mumokuteki Café is an approachable and friendly restaurant with a wide menu of Japanese-style vegetarian and vegan dishes. There’s an English menu that clearly lists important information for vegans, like whether or not fish stock is used in the preparation of dishes.
There’s a fresh salad bar and some tempting and filling set meals like the popular tofu burger plate (Y1,000 on weekdays and Y1,200 on weekends), as well as some great a la carte dishes. The menu has pictures, so it’s easy to know what you’re getting in advance.
The seating is airy and comfortable, but it can get crowded at lunchtime and on weekends. Try to go outside of peak lunch hour.
The café is hidden above a Japanese clothing store called Spins (in Japanese it’s スピンズ). Approach from the Teramachi Shopping Arcade, enter the shop and walk up the stairs.
