If you’re looking for boutique style, a downtown location and close personal service, all at midrange prices, it’s hard to beat the Nagi Kyoto Shijo. Just out the door is the heart of the Kyoto shopping district, with the three main department stores just down the street, and a major subway stop about a minute’s walk away.

The hotel is small, which guarantees a serene feeling and attentive service for guests. Rooms are spacious for this price range. The traditional décor gives you the feeling of being in a hotel-style ryokan, which is in keeping with Kyoto.

All in all, the Nagi is a solid value and a good choice for couples, flashpackers and those who want a break from big and soulless hotels.
