Suishoen is one of our favorite places to stay at Kinosaki Onsen. It’s just a bit outside of the town center, but the onsen baths are great, the rooms are nice, the people are friendly and the food is excellent. Oh, and the rates and very reasonable for an onsen ryokan.

Suishoen central garden
Suishoen is where we usually stay when we’re up in Kinosaki, the wonderful onsen town about 2.5 hours north of Kyoto on the Japan Sea. This modern ryokan is not in the central core of Kinosaki, but it’s quite close: we’ve walked to town several times, or taken advantage of the free London-taxi shuttle service to town and back.

Suishoen Japanese-style room
The rooms here are classic Japanese ryokan rooms and they’ll serve you an excellent dinner of local seafood (crab in winter) in your room if you choose a dinner package. After dinner (or any time you want), you can enjoy the ryokan’s own onsen baths. Or, you can head into town and soak in one of the town’s seven public onsen baths.

Suishoen onsen baths
The people here are very friendly and they’re very comfortable with foreign guests. And best of all, this place tends to be cheaper than most of the places in the core of Kinosaki, and certainly cheaper than comparable ryokan in Kyoto. We highly recommend this place!
