With its stunning interior design, gorgeous spa and wellness facilities, and top-notch service, The Thousand Kyoto holds its own with other luxury hotels in the city.

The Thousand Kyoto is an excellent choice for travellers who want a top-notch, modern, and comfortable stay. While this luxury hotel might be new – it opened in January 2019 – the impeccable service, gorgeous interior design, and attention to detail in every aspect gives other luxury hotels a real run for their money.
As expected of a luxury hotel, all 222 rooms are spacious, and beautifully designed. Rooms don’t come cheap, but they’re gorgeously appointed. A special mention must go to the showers with their high water pressure! Some of the suites have beautiful terrace gardens attached – perfect for relaxing with a cup of tea. There’s no need to worry about potential noise from the nearby trains, as rooms are well soundproofed.

Location-wise, it’s highly convenient. It’s a short 200-meter walk from Kyoto Station, and also within walking distance to other attractions like Higashi-Honganji Temple, Toji Temple, Kyoto Railway Museum, and Shosei-en Garden. While it’s not right in the heart of downtown Kyoto, there’s no shortage of train and bus connections.
It is a great base for exploring areas outside of Kyoto too, and especially if you’re travelling with a JR Pass. Day trips to Uji, Nara, Arashiyama, Himeji, Osaka, or Hiroshima are made extremely easy by hopping on the bullet train or one of the multiple train connections.

There are a number of on-site dining options, including Italian and Japanese restaurants. Kyoto has no shortage of great eating, but you may want to try at least one of the hotel restaurants. The hotel cafe and bar also serves Kyoto teas and sake, and the staff are very happy to assist with restaurant bookings.
The other facilities at The Thousand Kyoto are rather lovely. There’s a gym, chapel and beautiful garden within the hotel. The gym in particular has a good selection of machines. You’ll want to stay here for several nights at a minimum to make the most of the facilities!
We especially love the spa, as this isn’t your bog-standard onsen hot spring. Think massage treatments, a hot stone room, and an outdoor bath, among other things. You do have to pay an additional fee to use the spa, but it’s a one-time fee that allows you to then use it as many times as you want for the duration of your stay.
