Tosca is a friendly restaurant that serves healthy and delicious Japanese-style vegetarian and vegan food. It’s within walking distance of Ginkaku-ji and other sights in Northern Higashiyama.

If you’re looking for a healthy meal when in Northern Higashiyama, walk down Imadegawa-dori from Ginkaku-ji Temple and you’ll find yourself at Tosca in about 10 minutes.
They serve all kinds of tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes, mostly in the Japanese style, but there’s also pasta and curry. For lunch, the Tosca Lunch is a filling and tasty tray of food built around fried gluten, brown rice and miso soup (Y1,400). Vegans will be happy to know that the miso soup is made without fish flakes (they use kombu instead).

Despite the fact that they serve set meals containing things like fried gluten, they are also well aware of the needs of gluten-free diners. There is usually someone on hand who can speak English and they can work with you to help you choose gluten-free dishes. There is also an English menu, so ordering is a not a problem. So, for a healthy vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free meal in Northern Higashiyama, look no further than Tosca!
