Even in busy seasons, it’s possible to find hotel bargains in Kyoto. Some hotels are consistently cheaper than others in their class and offer superior value for the money. Here are our favorites.
Kyoto Hotel Okura (upper mid-range)
(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
The Okura offers classical elegance and the best location in town – within walking distance of all of downtown and the Higashiyama sightseeing districts. Rates here are half or even a third of other luxury hotels in town. Frankly, we don’t understand why, but we’re not arguing!

Cross Hotel Kyoto (mid-range)
(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
Right in the heart of downtown, the Cross is a popular and stylish hotel with incredibly reasonable rates. A corner room here will cost half what a standard room at Kyoto luxury hotel will cost, and it will be at least as spacious and pleasant.

Hyatt Regency Kyoto (luxury)
(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
Until very recently, the Hyatt Regency was considered the best hotel in town. Now, wealthy travelers are gravitating to the Ritz, the Four Seasons or the new Park Hyatt. The Hyatt Regency is the same great hotel it always was but rooms are half the price of the trendier options.

The Blossom Kyoto (mid-range)
(View on Booking.com)
A short walk south of downtown, the Blossom is a boutique hotel with nice Japanese touches and rates far below those of others in its class. Notably, it’s one of the few mid-range hotels with a fitness center.

Hyatt Place Kyoto (mid-range)
(View on Booking.com)
This new entry from the Hyatt brand offers a relatively convenient location (near the Gosho, the subway and walking distance to downtown) for rates that sometimes border on the budget range. It’s a fantastic value.

Hyatt Place Kyoto
The Pocket Hotel (budget)
(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
If you want something nearly as cheap as a capsule hotel, but with a bit more space and privacy, along with an incredibly convenient location right downtown, the Pocket Hotel is sure to please. How can you argue with a room for about $50? Laundry facilities are the icing on the cake.

Sotetsu Fresa Kyoto-Shijokarasuma (budget)
(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
If location and cost are your two main criteria, you’ll be happy with the Sotetsu Fresa Kyoto-Shijokarasuma. It’s a typical business hotel within steps of downtown. Room rates often hover around $100.

Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Kyoto Premier (mid-range)
(View on Booking.com or Agoda.com)
We can’t figure this place out: It’s right downtown, some rooms look right over the Kamo-gawa River, it’s got heaps of style, and yet rooms consistently go for between $200 to $300 (a bit more in busy seasons). Rooms may be on the small side, but it’s a great value.
